The 2021 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé
March 01 2021,
The BMW 2 Series 2 Gran Coupé arrived in the North American market in 2020 as an all-new subcompact 4-door coupé. It’s a sedan in profile with a traditionally mounted trunk but this 2 Series, just like all of BMW’s other Gran Coupé models, features frameless doors and a look of a low slung, sporty silhouette. Therefore, the Gran Coupé is more aligned to the other members of the 2 Series family: the longstanding 230i and M240i Coupé and Cabriolet.
This 2 Series is based upon the same platform that underpins BMW’s X1 and X2 subcompact crossovers. The Gran Coupé was designed for individuals that aren’t prioritizing practicality, they are more keen on the driving dynamics and style focused attitude that the 2 Series Gran Coupé provides. The Gran Coupé’s interior features the latest infotainment system and other desirable technology from the larger and most recent BMW models. Some of these features are currently unavailable with the 2021 X1 and X2 models. For example, the 10.3’’ touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay is just like the latest 3 Series or X5 SUV. The iDrive controller is just like those vehicles too, as it shares all the same componentry and feels just as rich and easy to use.
Along with all the best technology and features that BMW offers across their range, the Gran Coupé has the same build and material quality that customers should expect out of this premium brand. Despite being a small vehicle, the Gran Coupé doesn’t feel small on the road. The car is wide and feels solid, giving the driver a lot of confidence from behind the wheel. Outwards visibility in every direction is fantastic, too. The rear seats split 3 ways, meaning this subcompact car is exceptionally practical for owners that need to make space for long items, such as skis, without taking away too much space away from rear seat passengers.
The entry-level Gran Coupé is designated the 228i. It features a transverse-mounted 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 228 horsepower and 258 lb/ft of torque. xDrive is available on this model and comes as standard the rambunctious M Performance variant, the M235i Gran Coupé. This model features the same engine boosted to produce 302 horsepower and 332 lb/ft of torque. The M235i can reach 0-100hm/h in an astounding 4.2 seconds. The 2 Series Gran Coupé is engaging with great steering feel, a strong engine and throttle response with a flawlessly programmed 8-speed automatic transmission.
With an all-new model, there is so much more information to share about BMW’s smallest offering. To find out more about the 2 Series Gran Coupé in all of its forms, head over to BMW Gallery and test drive one today by visiting the dealership in Calgary’s Northwest Auto Mall.
