OVERVIEW
2019 BMW X5
The fourth generation of the BMW X5, codenamed the G05, has arrived for 2019. Based on the modular platform that currently underpins a lot of the latest BMW models such as the X7 and the new 3-series, the 2019 BMW X5 is now up to speed with many of the other vehicles in BMW's lineup. The midsize SUV (or SAV as BMW likes to say) offers so much technology and advancements over the outgoing generation of X5. Currently offered with two engines, a 3.0L straight-six or a 4.4L V8, both are responsible for sending power through the xDrive AWD system and the ZF built eight-speed automatic transmission. The straight-six engine, denoted as the 40i model, produces 335 horsepower and 330lb/ft of torque. More than a potent engine, the straight-six will be the more popular choice of engines for the X5. However, for the enthusiasts of the BMW brand, the 50i model with the v8 will be very tempting as it churns out 456hp and 479lb/ft produce shocking performance. A plug-in hybrid and the full-bore M version of the X5 are currently unconfirmed, but a safe bet that those variations will join the X5 lineup in the next couple of years.
The most noticeable changes to the new X5 will be recognized from the cabin space. More interior room for the front and rear passengers are welcome in the new model. A seven-seater option is available with the straight-six engine but those desiring a three-row SAV with the ability to carry taller adults in all three rows should look at the much larger BMW X7. This generation of X5 features standard tech like the ambient lighting, the panoramic glass roof, the full size BMW Live Cockpit digital instrument cluster and the paddles behind the steering wheel for manual shifting ability. Option packages like the M Sport, Driver Assistance and xOffroad host an assortment of features too long to list!
The X5 was amongst the first to define what the premium SUV can be. Its refinement and use of materials was unlike anything else at the time. With the ever expanding SUV production across all the major brands, BMW put serious effort and resources into the latest version of the X5 to build a flawless vehicle. The results are impressive; this midsize continues to define what the premium SUV is and should be.
There's a lot of improvements and upgrades available on the latest iteration of the X5. Test drive and compare the new X5 today at BMW Gallery in the Northwest Auto Mall.
